Alterazioni dentali iatrogene in pazienti affetti da rabdomiosarcoma: caso clinico
Objectives
To describe the effects of multimodal therapy in patients with rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) of the head and neck and to evaluate the possibilities for their treatment.
Materials and methods
We describe the surgical extraction of a retained canine found in a patient who had received multimodal therapy for RMS and was currently disease-free. Panoramic radiography showed the inclusion of tooth 23 and the absence of root maturation involving all elements in the front and lateral sectors of the maxilla. After consultation with the orthodontist, the decision was made to proceed with the extraction of tooth 23 (instead of attempting surgical-orthodontic repositioning) to prevent reabsorption of the teeth in the arch.
Results and conclusions
The postoperative course was normal, and there was no evidence of wound dehiscence or bone sequestration. In patients who have been treated for neoplastic disease of the head and neck, the indications for a surgical treatment must be evaluated very carefully since the complications can be very serious.
