Aqueous extracts of Parthenium hysterophorus leaf and flower seriously inhibited seed germination and seedling growth (root and shoot length) of lettuce. Extracts of the root and stem had much less effect. Lettuce roots were more sensitive to the allelopathic effect than shoots.
