Ultrasonic insect repellers – advertising and reality
The concept of the potential impact of ultrasound on the safety and performance of people, especially with prolonged exposure, is described. In the view of the widespread advertising and use of ultrasonic repellers, especially in places frequented by children and pets, it is especially important to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ultrasonic generators. The modern data of the world scientific literature on the ineffectiveness of ultrasonic repellers against arthropods (mosquitoes, cockroaches, fleas, bed bugs, ants and ixodid ticks) are presented. When studying ultrasonic repellers, first of all, it is necessary to instrumentally confirm the radiation of waves of ultrasonic range by the device, and it is also necessary to conduct studies of the target efficacy and safety of use. Keywords: ultrasound, repeller, arthropods, insects, efficacy, safety.
