Effects of intervention program to improve knowledge of preventive measures and practice management related to anaphylaxis among nursing students in the second year at University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University
Introduction: Anaphylaxis is an allergic reaction, that can appear immediately from a few seconds, minutes to hours after the body is exposed to the allergen, causing various clinical scenarios, which can be severe and lead to a quick death. Objectives: Describe the knowledge of anaphylaxis prevention and practice management of 2nd year nursing students and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. Methodology: A quasi-experimental study was designed on 138 2nd year nursing students of University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University. The questionnaire was developed based on Circular 51/2017/TT-BYT. Results: 100% of students increased the rate of correct answers on the prevention, diagnosis, and practice management of
anaphylaxis after an intervention. There was a statistically significant difference in nursing students’ general knowledge of anaphylaxis, knowledge of anaphylaxis prevention, knowledge of anaphylaxis management, and monitoring before and after intervention (p<0.001). Conclusions: After the intervention on anaphylaxis, the student’s knowledge of anaphylaxis prevention and management improved quite well. However, the knowledge gaps remained in the students after the intervention. Therefore, it is necessary to have simulated situations related to anaphylaxis for students in the process of studying at school and going to clinical practice, to improve learners’ knowledge.
