Sebagai sumber kedua dalam Islam, secara otomatis hadits juga menerima kritik yang dilontarkan oleh para sarjana barat yang mendiskreditkan sumber ajaran Islam. Penelitian ini mengambil pemikiran Mustafa al-Azami, yaitu cendekiawan yang berupaya untuk mendudukkan kembali periodisasi hadits dari masa pencatatan hingga kodifikasi. Adapun metode pewartaan dalam periodisasi tersebut berimplikasi kepada landasan transmmisi keilmuan saat ini. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif-analitis, Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa periodisasi hadits dari masa pencatatan hingga kodifikasi menimbulkan jejak metode dalam proses validitas atau kritik terhadap sanad dan matan hadits. Hal ini berimplikasi dalam penerapan terhadap transmisi keilmuan masa kontemporer, sebagaimana yang telah dipraktikkan jauh pada masa para sahabat. Metode para sahabat menandakan bahwa kegiatan literasi telah dilakukan pada masa Nabi SAW. Bahkan metode tersebut telah direfleksikan dengan kegiatan transmisi keilmuan masa kini. Hal ini menegaskan bahwa Islam dalam transmisi keilmuan hanya membawa kebenaran sebagai petunjuk bagi seluruh umat manusia.[The Role of Friends in The Periodization of Hadith and Their Implications on The Transmission of Islamic Education Science. As for the method of preaching in the periodization of the implications to the transmission of science at this time. This research is qualitative research which is descriptive-analytical. Result of the study is that the periodization of the hadits of the recording to the codification cause the trace method in the process of the validity or criticsm of sanad and matan of hadits. This has implications in the application to the transmission of scientific contemporary period, as has been practised of the companions. The method of the companions indicates that the literacy activities have been done since at the time of prophet Muhammad SAW. Even the method that has been reflected by the activities of transmission of knowledge of the present.
