REPRESENTASI GAYA HIDUP DAN TRADISI MINUM KOPI DALAM KARYA SASTRA

Artikel ini bertujuan menunjukkan bagaimana minum kopi sebagai tradisi dan gaya hidup ditampilkan dalam karya sastra. Objek penelitian ini adalah cerpen berjudul “Filosofi Kopi” karya Dee (Dewi Lestari). Cerpen ini membicarakan budaya minum kopi pada masyarakat urban dan masyarakat rural di Indonesia. Dalam artikel ini digunakan teori representasi Stuart Hall. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif analitis. Dari hasil penelitian diperoleh kesimpulan sebagai berikut: (1) cerpen “Filosofi Kopi” menampilkan budaya minum kopi dalam dua representasi,  yaitu kopi sebagai gaya hidup dan kopi sebagai tradisi. (2) Representasi minum kopi sebagai gaya hidup diperlihatkan dari cara kaum urban memproduksi citra tertentu melalui aktivitas minum kopi. Sementara itu, minum kopi sebagai tradisi diperlihatkan dari cara masyarakat rural memaknai kopi sebagai bagian yang melekat dalam kehidupan keseharian mereka yang sederhana. Teks cerpen ini juga menunjukkan keberpihakan secara ideologis terhadap citra minum kopi sebagai tradisi, sebagai wacana yang perlu disuarakan di tengah masifnya citra minum kopi sebagai gaya hidup. This article aims to show how drinking coffee as a tradition and lifestyle is featured in literary works. The object of this research is a short story entitled "Philosophy of Coffee" by Dee (Dewi Lestari). This short story discusses the culture of drinking coffee in both urban and rural communities in Indonesia. Using Stuart Hall's theory of representation with descriptive analytical method the results of the study concluded that: (1) the short story "Philosophy of Coffee" displays the culture of drinking coffee in two representations, namely coffee as both a lifestyle and a tradition. (2) Representation of drinking coffee as a lifestyle is shown in the way urbanites produce certain images through coffee drinking activities. Meanwhile, drinking coffee as a tradition is shown by the way rural people interpret coffee as an inherent part of their simple daily lives. The text of this short story also shows ideological leaning towards the image of drinking coffee as a tradition, as a discourse that needs to be voiced in the midst of the massive image of drinking coffee as a lifestyle.
