Returned to Spain in 1798 and having eluded the second expulsion (1801), in Palencia he lived in the company of the family of a sister, where he was witness to famine and malaria between 1800 and 1805. Considering this humanitarian disaster, he composed the Votive Canto to the Holy Christ of Otero, discussed in this article. In beautiful real octave, he narrated the hard social, economic and healthy context of the time.
