To obtain “exact” or “interpretable” laboratory data in veterinary medicine, pre-analytical and analytical processes should be checked. In haematology or biochemistry, the quality of the results depends, in particular, on the awareness of the pre-analytical variation factors. Among these: the handling of samples and the technique of sampling (site of venopuncture, anticoagulants choice, delay before analysis, blood storage [frozen or not]), and second, the individual variations (physiologic status, fasting, use of sedative drugs, chronic disease …). All data should be noted to facilitate the results’ interpretation.
