The uncontrolled increase in the emission of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide (CO2), will directly affect plants, due to the influence of carbon dioxide on photosynthetic processes. However, the environmental consequences are not only limited to this increase of gases in the atmosphere. Consideration should be given to the simultaneous increase in air temperature and a reduction in the quality and quantity of water resources. The impact of climate change on agriculture refers mainly to the fall in productivity and the reduction of areas suitable for the management of crops. Faced with this problem, there is a growing number of studies reporting that the effects of CO2 enrichment on the productivity of agricultural systems will depend on the photosynthetic pathway of the species. Thus, the main interest of this study is to assist in the understanding of CO2 fixation mechanisms and the response process of forage plants, the environmental factors that affect carbon assimilation, considering the worrying scenario of climate change and the direct influence of these on the pasture management strategies and food supply planning during the year.
