They are introduced main results from two questionnaire surveys. The first questionnaire survey was aimed at mayors and mayors of small municipalities and questions concerning the issue of drinking water supply were specified. The second questionnaire campaign was aimed at residents of the Czech Republic older than 15 years. Here the questions were directed to identify the most important factors influencing the choice of municipality or city in which the respondent would like to live. Data collection was carried out in the spring of 2020. The investigation took place as part of a project called “Availability drinking water for the inhabitants of small municipalities as an indicator of the socio-economic development of society \" funded by the TACR ETA program. The aim of the mentioned project is in accordance with the departmental strategies and concepts to create a methodology for the adaptation of small municipalities in terms of the availability of drinking water for residents such as indicator of socio - economic development of society. The acquired knowledge proves that the problem the supply of drinking water to municipalities is a current topic, which is perceived both by the municipal self-government and by the general public.
