Both orally and locally administered olive oil and usnic acid showed proapoptotic effect through the activation of caspase 2, 3, 8 and 9. Also, they showed strong myeloperoxidase (MPO) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) activities. However, iNOS and MPO activities do not have a strong effect in local application. decreased SOD activity and GSH level. In parallel, titanium implantation in these tissues also decreased. In the light of the data obtained, both usnic acid and olive oil induced apoptotic cell death.
