The precursor, Pt(C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>9</sub>)<sub>2</sub>, is successfully prepared by the reaction of dichloro(1,5-cyclooctadiene)platinum ((COD)PtCl<sub>2</sub>) with pent-4-en-1-ylmagnesium bromide, which is confirmed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (<sup>1</sup>H-NMR). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images show that Pt nanoparticles with an average size of 4.6 ± 1.1 nm are dispersed uniformly onto the SBA-15.
