Milpa y saberes mayas en San Sebastián Yaxché, Peto, Yucatán
The present work was developed in the Mayan community of San Sebastian Yaxche, Peto, Yucatan, with the objective of systematizing the traditional agricultural knowledge we found among milperos. Following a qualitative approach, from January 2018 through July 2019, we obtained information through semi-structured interviews with 16 milperos over 40 years of age. The results showed that a large amount of ancestral knowledge in the way their ancestors worked the milpa is still present in older people; therefore, it is urgent that they are transmitted to the younger ones through agricultural work, thus, avoiding their disappearance. This, thanks to the testimonies provided by the people interviewed.
