The field of sport history, as productive of history, is reckoning with the asymmetries of racial power and representations that constitutes the field. This paper provides a meaningful intervention for how sport historians and sport studies scholars who wish to publish in sport history can change the practices that constitute how they do their work and how the field of study is organized. First, we interrogate the ways in which “objective” insider whiteness has dominated sport history and determined the value of sport history scholarship. Second, we propose a solution of inside/out collaboration as an intervention to the field. Finally, we introduce a paradigm shift to expand scholarly knowledge and evolve social justice into sustainable equality.
