Application of hazard vulnerability analysis in hospital emergency management

Objective To explore the application of hazard vulnerability analysis (HVA) in hospital emergency management, and to improve hospital emergency prevention capabilities. Methods Using the commonly used risk assessment matrix in China, 255 different positions and different personnel levels were selected to identify the potential hazards faced by the hospital; risk assessment and sequencing were carried out; and various hazard risk levels were identified. Results Through the hospital HVA, the top six risk factors were typhoon (46.00%), elevator accident (37.20%), public health emergency (30.00%), information system failure (27.00%), fire (26.00%), and power failure (25.50%). We identified the sudden risk events that the hospital needed to respond to and the key management projects. Conclusion HVA is an important basis for hospitals to identify and reduce risks. The weakest links in hospitals are identified, and the major emergencies that hospitals need to deal with are identified. Therefore, appropriate prevention and response measures are adopted in an organized, planned, and focused manner. It is of great significance to continuously improve the hospital emergency management capabilities ensuring the safety of life and property in hospitals and of doctors.
