Valores normativos para el Test del Hotel en adultos jóvenes de Buenos Aires
Introduction
Multitasking is a key component of everyday performance. Previous research has shown that multitasking can be impaired in a number of neurological and psychiatric conditions. However, most executive tests included in neuropsychological assessment batteries are not sensible to deficits in this ability. The Hotel Task assesses multitasking abilities through an «ecological» environment that mimics the work of a hotel.
Aim
The aim of the study was to establish normative data for the Hotel Test in young adults of Buenos Aires.
Methods
Participant sample consisted of 160 healthy control subjects with an age range 19-60 years. All participants had 12 or more years of education.
Results
Statistical analysis revealed that age and education had no influence on the performance in the amount of tasks attempted, deviation of time spent on tasks and garage door time deviations. Significant differences in sex were observed in deviation of time spent on tasks and garage door time deviations, but with small effect sizes.
Conclusion
Normative data was presented for the Hotel Test to be used in young adults of Buenos Aires. This study provides clinicians with an ecological tool that can be used in daily practice to assess multitasking abilities and prospective memory within a «real life» environment, thus surpassing the limitations that «classical» executive functions tests present.
