Electron Energy Measurement Using Optical Transition Radiation
An optical scheme for diagnosing moderately relativistic electron beams based on the detection of optical transition radiation (OTR) has been proposed and implemented. This scheme makes it possible to measure the beam profile, its angular divergence, and energy without resorting to splitting the OTR beam into two, but using a single optical path. A commercial CCD camera with a working field of 6 × 20 mm and a pixel size of 26 × 26 μm made it possible to measure the angular distribution of OTR and, accordingly, the electron energy with an accuracy of about 7%.
