Previous studies have revealed that flavonoids possess biomedical activities, including antioxidant, anti-cancer, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory properties. They also have the functions of lowering lipids, lowering blood sugar, and improving insulin resistance. This article selects four typical compounds of flavonoids, namely baicalin, baicalein, quercetin, and rutin, and reviews their effects and mechanisms of action in improving insulin resistance.
