End of Life Care at Home for an Elderly Man with Glioblastoma multiforme.
In India just about 2% of people have access to palliative care and a vast majority of the palliative care services are located in the state of Kerala (Khosla et al., 2012). Conditions in other states, including Bihar, leaves much to be desired. In most parts of urban India, end of life care is hospital based. In the rural setting there is more acceptance of dying at home. Palliative care needs an inter-disciplinary team approach of doctors, nurses, counselors, social workers, physiotherapists and volunteers to take care of patients. Home care is not well developed in Bihar. It is difficult to arrange home care if desired and needed. This case report will describe our experience successfully providing home based palliative care by training family members.

The Journal of Social Work in End-of-Life & Palliative Care, now affiliated with the Social Work in Hospice and Palliative Care Network, explores issues crucial to caring for terminally ill patients and their families. Academics and social work practitioners present current research, articles, and continuing features on the "state of the art" of social work practice, including interdisciplinary interventions, practice innovations, practice evaluations, end-of-life decision-making, grief and bereavement, and ethical and moral issues. The Journal of Social Work in End-of-Life & Palliative Care combines theory and practice to facilitate an understanding of the multi-level issues surrounding care for those in pain and suffering from painful, debilitating, and/or terminal illness.
