Some patients have a wishful thinking that the disease could be cured by some “magic pills or herbs,” and so poor compliance to treatment is very common. Therefore, some patients have had uncontrolled active disease for a long time. This has become a major cause of irreversible organ damage and the accrual of internal organ damage, which finally leads to high mortality. Not only can SLE cause psychosomatic suffering but also its care imposes a heavy economic burden on families and society.
