Localization of antigenic determinants on bovine encephalitogenic protein: disease-inducing activity of fragment 44-68 in rabbits.
Region 44-68 of the basic protein of bovine central nervous system myelin is shown to have moderate encephalitogenic activity when rabbits are used as test animals. This finding is interpreted to mean that a second disease-inducing site, different from the decapeptide region enclosing residues 65-74 described by Shapira et al. (1971a) exists within region 44-89 of the encephalitogenic protein. On the other hand, we have been unable to induce clinical disease with peptide 69-89.
