This work provides non paramagnetic behaviour of La<sub>2</sub>FeCrO<sub>6</sub> at room temperature and the first report on the synthesis and characterization of the Sm<sub>2</sub>FeCrO<sub>6</sub> double perovskite. From Rietveld refinement of the powder X-ray diffraction, the crystal structure of the double perovskite was confirmed to be monoclinic (P2<sub>1</sub>/n), with an average crystallite size of 55 nm and 72 nm. XRD results were further supported by Raman spectroscopic modes. The zero field cooled (ZFC) and field cooled (FC) curves diverged below 250 K temperature for Sm based sample and near the room temperature for La based sample.
