These metabolites may serve as novel biomarkers, complementing conventional risk indicators in disease diagnosis, prognosis, screening, and patient monitoring. Microbiome-derived metabolites may hold dual utility, first as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers, and, second, as potential targets for pharmacologic modulation.
