Multiloculated cystic pelvic mass in a post-menopausal woman: A case of ovarian hydatid cyst mimicking malignancy
Ovarian hydatid disease is a rare manifestation of echinococcosis and can mimic ovarian malignancy on imaging, leading to diagnostic challenges. We present the case of a 54-year-old postmenopausal female from rural Nepal who presented with lower abdominal pain for several weeks. Initial imaging findings raised suspicion for ovarian malignancy; however, detailed evaluation and correlation with serologic testing confirmed the diagnosis of hydatid disease. This case underscores the importance of considering hydatid disease in the differential diagnosis of cystic pelvic masses, especially in patients from endemic regions.
