Among the greatest challenge areas experienced were in areas of changing supply and demand, rising costs, decreased revenue, and widening health inequities (Blumenthal etal. N Engl J Med 383:1483-1488, 2020; Cypress, Nurs Forum 57:323-327, 2022; Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, National health spending in 2020 increases due to impact of COVID-19 pandemic, 2021). As we emerge from the pandemic, we must capitalize on the opportunity to transform and adapt to be better equipped to handle the next public health crisis.
