Effect of pH and sulphate ion concentration on the adsorption of uranium onto lamellar magnesium-amino clay
Radioactive liquid waste is a by-product resulting from the nuclear applications. Uranium in aqueous solution is able to form variety of uranyl complexes. However, there are few studies which reported the adsorption of anionic uranium complex by positively charge adsorbent. In the present study, Mg-amino clay (MgAC) is produced and used for the uranium adsorption. The effect of pH and sulphate concentration on the adsorption of uranium is examined and discussed. MgAC showed a superior adsorption capacity at pH ranges 3 ~ 5. The sulphate anion effect to uranium adsorption was apparent at concentration ranges 0.01 M and 0.1 M.
