An efficient and practical procedure for the synthesis of two novel series of (benz)imidazole-allyl alcohol and imidazole-1,3-diol derivatives by regioselective reduction of the corresponding (benz)imidazole-ketone derivatives using NaBH4/CeCl3·7H2O is herein reported.
