Synthesis of TiO2 Nanopowders by Thermal Decomposition of a Titanium Peroxo Complex in the Presence of an NaCl Template
Disperse titanium dioxide was prepared by the thermal decomposition (700°C) of a titanium peroxo complex in the presence of a sodium chloride template at various precursor/template ratios. Comparative analysis was carried out against titanium dioxide prepared in the absence of templates. The prepared titanium dioxide was represented by two crystalline phases: anatase and rutile. The synthesis of nanosized TiO2 in the presence of sodium chloride yielded an aggregate of spherical TiO2 grains with an average diameter of 19 nm. The major crystalline phase was anatase (>90%). The increasing NaCl content in the initial mixture brought about an increase in the proportion of the <15 nm grain fraction, an increase in the proportion of the anatase phase, and an increase in the specific surface area Ssp.
