Does supply chain visibility improve firm resilience: An organizational information processing theory perspective
As disruptions and unpredictability grow in global supply chains, boosting firm resilience has emerged as a key managerial priority. This research draws upon organizational information processing theory (OIPT) to explore how supply chain visibility influences firm resilience, as well as the factors that moderate this relationship. Our dataset consists of panel data for 526 publicly listed manufacturing firms in China, capturing information on their top five suppliers and customers between 2018 and 2023. In addition, data related to supply chain visibility were compiled from the companies’ official websites. The findings demonstrate that supply chain visibility significantly enhances firm resilience. Further analysis reveals that environmental complexity, customer concentration, financial slack, and inventory slack positively moderate this relationship, while environmental dynamism exerts a negative moderating effect. Supplier concentration fails to show a notable moderating influence. This research broadens the application of OIPT and offers actionable guidance for firms aiming to strengthen their resilience.
