Consumo de cannabis en población adulta de España (2022)
Objective
To analyze the evolution of cannabis use and problematic use between 2013-2022 in population aged 15-64 years in Spain, and to characterize people with problematic use.
Method
Data from the EDADES 2013-2022 survey were analyzed and prevalence of consumption by sex and age group was estimated. Prevalence maps were drawn up for autonomous communities in 2022. To characterize individuals with problematic use, logistic regression models were fitted.
Results
Lifetime cannabis use increased in Spain between 2013 (30.4%) and 2022 (40.8%). In 2022, prevalence of cannabis use in the last year was estimated in 10.6% with a problematic use in 49.9% of users. Prevalence varied among autonomous communities. Being male, with basic education, unemployed, presenting alcohol risk consumption and being a tobacco smoker in the last year were associated with problematic cannabis use. The variable that best reflected problematic cannabis use was smoking alone.
Conclusions
The results of this study place cannabis as a public health issue in Spain. It is necessary to implement health education measures at a global level and secondary prevention measures aimed at people at risk of problematic use, especially among those who report smoking cannabis alone or smoking cannabis before noon.
