Current progress in energy utilization of building systems combining solar thermal and heat storage technologies
In the global context of energy conservation and carbon reduction, solar thermal storage for building energy use is a green and efficient method of energy utilization, holding great significance for achieving energy conservation and emission reduction, and promoting sustainable development. This study, in combination with the latest building energy policy documents, reviews the current research directions of solar building thermal energy applications. The development and classification of thermal energy storage technologies are compared, with a critical summary of the latest advancements in enhanced heat exchange for phase-change energy storage technology. Moreover, the current enhanced heat exchange methods have guiding significance for the thermal regulation of passive buildings and the collection of solar thermal energy in the future. Finally, the latest research on the active (solar water heating system) and passive (heat storage wall) energy consumption of typical solar thermal storage buildings in recent years is summarized and highlighted. The promising application and future improvement of thermal energy storage technology in the system are discussed. For the future, in terms of optimizing the performance of heat storage materials, intelligent control and system integration, efforts should be made to promote the development of building systems towards energy self-sufficiency and environmental friendliness.

The mission of Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews is to disseminate the most compelling and pertinent critical insights in renewable and sustainable energy, fostering collaboration among the research community, private sector, and policy and decision makers. The journal aims to exchange challenges, solutions, innovative concepts, and technologies, contributing to sustainable development, the transition to a low-carbon future, and the attainment of emissions targets outlined by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews publishes a diverse range of content, including review papers, original research, case studies, and analyses of new technologies, all featuring a substantial review component such as critique, comparison, or analysis. Introducing a distinctive paper type, Expert Insights, the journal presents commissioned mini-reviews authored by field leaders, addressing topics of significant interest. Case studies undergo consideration only if they showcase the work's applicability to other regions or contribute valuable insights to the broader field of renewable and sustainable energy. Notably, a bibliographic or literature review lacking critical analysis is deemed unsuitable for publication.
