The key to exercise in youth…just do it!

OBJECTIVE

Increased screen time (ST), sedentary behaviors (SB), and limited physical activity (PA) have led to an increase in childhood obesity and various obesity related co-morbidities among children and adolescents. The purpose of this article is to discuss consequences of increased SB/ST, importance of PA, accessibility to PA, and solutions to increase children and adolescents' daily movement.

METHODS

This article will review the evidence-based research regarding consequences of increased ST/SB and subsequent decreases in PA. Several studies are reviewed and a detailed discussion of each key is provided.

RESULTS

Ample data support high levels of SB/ST and limited PA can contribute to adverse health outcomes. The details listed in this article help promote PA options including accessibility, inclusive options, and inside ideas for PA.

CONCLUSION

A variety of factors such as ST, SB, and limited PA contribute to childhood obesity and related comorbidities. Clinicians, parents/caregivers, and others play a key role in helping children stay active and maintaining a healthy weight.

Because the scope of clinical lipidology is broad, the topics addressed by the Journal are equally diverse. Typical articles explore lipidology as it is practiced in the treatment setting, recent developments in pharmacological research, reports of treatment and trials, case studies, the impact of lifestyle modification, and similar academic material of interest to the practitioner. Sections of Journal of clinical lipidology will address pioneering studies and the clinicians who conduct them, case studies, ethical standards and conduct, professional guidance such as ATP and NCEP, editorial commentary, letters from readers, National Lipid Association (NLA) news and upcoming event information, as well as abstracts from the NLA annual scientific sessions and the scientific forums held by its chapters, when appropriate.
