Optical fiber sensors in biomedical: trends and emerging research – A review
Optical fiber sensors represent a rapidly advancing technology with substantial applications across various fields, particulary in the biomedical domain. The unique properties of optical fibers, such as their compact size, high sensitivity, immunity to electromagnetic interference, and ability to perform real-time monitoring, make them highly suitable for biomedical applications. These sensors are increasly being utilized for wide range of medical purposes, including diagnostic, minimally invasive surgeries, contious health monitoring, and early disease detection. Their versatility and precision have opend new avenues for improving patient care and advancing medical technologies. This review paper explores the latest developments of different types of optical fiber sensors in the biomedical field, challenges, and future prospects, highlighting their transformative potential in revolutionizing healthcare practices. It presents a bibliometric analysis using data from the Scopus database to track research trends, international collaborations, and geographic distribution. By capturing both historical and contemporary developments, the findings provide valuable insights to guide researchers, drive innovation, and foster collaboration in this evolving field.
期刊介绍:
Innovations in optical fiber technology are revolutionizing world communications. Newly developed fiber amplifiers allow for direct transmission of high-speed signals over transcontinental distances without the need for electronic regeneration. Optical fibers find new applications in data processing. The impact of fiber materials, devices, and systems on communications in the coming decades will create an abundance of primary literature and the need for up-to-date reviews.
Optical Fiber Technology: Materials, Devices, and Systems is a new cutting-edge journal designed to fill a need in this rapidly evolving field for speedy publication of regular length papers. Both theoretical and experimental papers on fiber materials, devices, and system performance evaluation and measurements are eligible, with emphasis on practical applications.
