One-step recovery of Y-90 from Sr-90 for nuclear medicine using commercial sorbents
New methods for one-step yttrium-90 (Y-90) recovery from strontium-90 (Sr-90) solutions for nuclear medicine using extraction chromatography were developed. Conditions for quantitative recovery of purified Y-90 for laboratory practice were found using commercial sorbents TRU, DGA and LN. The behavior of strontium, yttrium, and impurity elements in modeling the separation process of 10 GBq of studied radionuclides was studied; it was shown that only TRU is suitable for large-scale production of Y-90. The yield of Y-90 using this sorbent is 80%, and the impurity elements level meets the requirements of the Russian Pharmacopoeia even when using “chemically pure” reagents.
