Yttrium-90 was produced with 688 ± 41 MBq/mg specific activity and > 99.9% radionuclide purity in a medium flux research reactor. A simple and reproducible method was established to prepare radioactive patch sources, incorporating 92 ± 8 MBq of <sup>90</sup>Y in each source with uniform distribution of radioactivity, without any surface contamination and almost no leaching of radioactivity.
