Established scientists, early-career researchers and graduate students gathered to discuss recent developments in the analysis, modelling and engineering of plasma membranes and their mimics. As a Faraday Discussion, the focus was on facilitating intellectual debate, with papers circulated in advance and concise summaries presented before opening the floor to discussion. Lively debate was encouraged and attendees participated in an open and engaging dialogue of pertinent questions in the field.
