The impact of health misinformation and health literacy on the management of dyslipidemia
Globally, cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death. The dissemination of health misinformation on management dyslipidemia, especially statin misinformation, is a significant threat to public health and to the delivery of cardiovascular preventive care. This brief report explores the intersection of health literacy and health misinformation, sources of misinformation, and the disproportionate impact of misinformation across communities, worsening health disparities. Additionally, interdisciplinary strategies are proposed to combat misinformation, and increase the dissemination of accurate, evidence-based information on dyslipidemia, with the goal of improving the delivery of equitable care and reducing cardiovascular events.
