Rare central-variant of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome: Pons and middle cerebellar peduncles involvement
Central variant of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is an atypical clinical-radiological condition. We report an unusual case of a 37-year old woman with history of chronic renal insufficiency and hypertension. The patient presented with headache, dysarthria, dizziness and balance disturbance. Imaging findings include vasogenic edema of the pons and the middle cerebellar peduncles without supratentorial involvement. After treatment with antihypertensives and dialysis, her blood pressure and physical exam returned to normal and neurological symptoms resolved. Follow-up imaging showed improvement. It is import to identify this entity to enact appropriate treatment.
