Investigation of the Usability of Rosmarinus Officinalis L. Plant in Textile Finishing Processes Within the Scope of Sustainability
Color and fashion effects were previously at the top of the list of consumers’ preference for products. However, today, consumers are also interested in the functional features that products provide them. In this context, this study investigated whether woolen fabrics could be colored using the Rosmarinus officinalis L. plant and whether antibacterial properties could be imparted to the fabrics as a result of the dyeing experiments. In this study, dried and ground R. officinalis L. plant leaves were used in the coloring process of woolen fabrics. K/S, CIE L*a*b*C* and h° color measurements, fastness tests, antibacterial effect tests, FTIR analysis, SEM images and SEM-EDX analysis of the washed and dried wool fabrics as a result of the dyeing processes were carried out. In addition, ICP-MS analyzes of R. officinalis L. plant leaves was also performed. Within the scope of the study, it was determined that R. officinalis L. plant leaves can be used in the coloring process of woolen fabrics. In addition, in many dyeing experiments carried out within the scope of the study, it was determined that the antibacterial effect value of 99.99%, which is a very high value, was obtained against Staphylococcusaureus and Escherichiacoli bacteria.
