When in bloom, Singaporandia macrophylla (R.Br. ex Hook.f.) K.M.Wong is one of the delights of the lowland forest in the Malay Peninsula including Singapore, the Riau Islands to its south, and Sumatra. An evergreen treelet or sometimes shrub, this unusual species is described and illustrated. Extremely out of place in the Randia and Rothmannia alliances where it was placed previously, it is remarkable for its relatively short branches bearing only a solitary pair of leaves, extraordinary large infundibular flowers with corolla tubes to 15 cm long, and purple speckling down the inside of an otherwise white corolla tube.
