WHAT WILL REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

The author is Leader to Leader's editor-in-chief, the same position long held by the publication's founder, Frances Hesselbein, who passed away at the age of 107 in 2022. The column revolves around the contents of a note found in Frances’ home: “If I concentrate on one thing, what will really make a difference? You risk nothing, there will be no success if you don't concentrate,” and the influence it has had on the author's life and work. “Knowing that if I do not concentrate, there will be no success,” she writes, “I choose to focus on something of a third-place solution to our current state of division. I call this alternative “Working Together”© towards a bright future for all.” She then introduces a forthcoming, new section of the journal, “Bright Future: Viewpoints from Tomorrow's Leaders.” The writers of the pieces in the new section will be emerging leaders (approximately age 30 and younger). She notes Frances's longstanding work with young leaders worldwide, and writes, “It is our intention to give voice to young people who have important contributions to make to the study and practice of leadership across the sectors.”
