Eight-year update on orthodontic-surgical correction of Class II malocclusion for iatrogenic complications

This report provides an 8-year follow-up on the surgical-orthodontic treatment of a 16-year-old male patient. The patient previously underwent iatrogenic orthodontic intervention, which involved the use of headgear to correct his severe skeletal Class II malocclusion (ANB, 11.6°), resulting in excessive uncontrolled buccal root torque of the maxillary incisors. The maxillary incisors were realigned and repositioned within the alveolar bone with the appropriate buccolingual torque. This intervention included the extraction of the mandibular first premolars to aid in uprighting the mandibular incisors and create an adequate overjet necessary for the subsequent mandibular advancement surgery. Although the patient received periodontal treatments, including connective tissue manipulation and bone grafting, a minor recurrence of gingival recession was observed. Nonetheless, the patient has shown long-term stability and a proper occlusal relationship 8 years posttreatment.
