Reflection of light from a moving corner cube: a relativistic and geometric analysis.
The relativistic analysis of light reflection from a moving mirror, originally derived by Einstein, extends naturally to corner retroreflectors. This paper presents a Taylor-Fourier series expansion of Einstein's formulas and identifies a discrepancy in the second-order term of Dashchuk's analysis, as reported in Proc. IEEE57, 2148 (1969)10.1109/PROC.1969.7499. A geometric derivation of the angular reflection law is also provided, independent of Lorentz transformations. Additionally, a coordinate-free geometric construction is introduced for determining the direction of the reflected beam, given the incident beam and the velocity of the corner reflector.
