Papers from Brazil were the most frequent, particularly in the Amazon region. Methodological discrepancies, especially in sampling, detection limits and sample preparation, limit data comparability and impact progress toward understanding MPs' environmental impact. Harmonizing methodologies and broadening geographic coverage are crucial.
