The obtained liquid-like coacervates (droplets) can undergo oxidation-responsive disassembly through the conversion of the sulfide groups to the sulfoxide groups. Moreover, the coacervates selectively encapsulate hydrophobic molecules; therefore, oxidation-responsive disassembly can lead to the controlled release of the encapsulated molecules. The construction of coacervates composed of an oligo(ethylene glycol) derivative bearing benzyl sulfide groups is presented.
