Cover Feature: Mg Plating in Nonethereal Electrolyte Solutions: Fact or Misconception? (ChemSusChem 15/2025)
The Cover Feature shows a magnesium ion in an ethereal solution. In his Review (DOI: 10.1002/cssc.202500418), T. Mandai provides a fundamental understanding of magnesium electrochemistry in ethereal solutions and outlines the characteristics of non-ethereal systems with respect to their formulations. Comprehensive reviewing and experimental validation on the electrochemical magnesium plating/stripping activity reaffirms that only a limited range of solvents support the desired reaction. A protocol for assessing whether proposed electrolyte systems genuinely support magnesium plating/stripping is also presented.
