Recent progress of biosensing techniques for environmental antibiotic resistance genes
The widespread use of antibiotics has led to the emergence of antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) and their resistance genes (ARGs) in the environment, posing a risk of transmission to humans. This trend complicates treatment and necessitates effective ARG detection methods for disease diagnosis and resistance prevention. Given the challenges of real-world detection environments, advancing biological detection technologies for precise identification of ARGs is crucial. Despite numerous reports on ARG detection, a comprehensive review of biosensors for ARG detection remains lacking. This review aims to introduce the latest research progress in the classification and application of biosensors for evaluating and monitoring ARGs, including electrochemical, photothermal and calorimetric sensors. The classification and characteristics of ARGs in the environment are summarized, and the mechanism and application of biosensors for detecting ARGs are discussed in detail. This review serves to supply comprehensive insights into biological detection methods for ARGs.
