Comment on “Surface exposure ages of middle–late Pleistocene marine and fluvial terraces along the northern and southern Sanriku coasts, Northeast Japan” by Wakasa et al. (2025)
Wakasa et al. (2025) conducted surface exposure dating of middle to late Pleistocene marine terraces at three sites along the Sanriku coast, northeast Japan, and argued that the long-term coastal uplift rates along the northern and southern Sanriku coasts are 0.25 ± 0.15 and 0.4 mm/yr, respectively. We found, however, that there are serious errors in their assumptions and age modeling, and thus the terrace ages and long-term uplift rates presented in the paper should be justified with relevant research results to be sufficiently cited.
