Comparative Analysis of Quantitative Indicators of Progesterone Receptor Protein and mRNA Expression in Tumor Cell Lines.
Progesterone receptors are involved in the regulation of tumor cell proliferation and therefore can be considered as a target of antitumor drugs. However, the question of the concordance of quantitative indicators of the protein and mRNA produced as a result of the expression of a single gene remains open. In this study, the concordance of the expression of the progesterone receptor protein and mRNA was evaluated using real-time PCR and flow cytometry, respectively, in 10 tumor cell lines (T47D, A375, PANC-1, SNU-1, HT-29, OVCAR-3, BXPC-3, HCC1954, A549, MCF-7). The expression of the progesterone receptor protein was detected in all studied cell lines; the expression of progesterone receptor mRNA was detected only in the T47D, which shows the discordance of these indicators and queries the relevance of measuring the expression of tumor marker mRNA when selecting the targeted anti-tumor drugs for the treatment of oncological diseases.
期刊介绍:
Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine presents original peer reviewed research papers and brief reports on priority new research results in physiology, biochemistry, biophysics, pharmacology, immunology, microbiology, genetics, oncology, etc. Novel trends in science are covered in new sections of the journal - Biogerontology and Human Ecology - that first appeared in 2005.
World scientific interest in stem cells prompted inclusion into Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine a quarterly scientific journal Cell Technologies in Biology and Medicine (a new Russian Academy of Medical Sciences publication since 2005). It publishes only original papers from the leading research institutions on molecular biology of stem and progenitor cells, stem cell as the basis of gene therapy, molecular language of cell-to-cell communication, cytokines, chemokines, growth and other factors, pilot projects on clinical use of stem and progenitor cells.
The Russian Volume Year is published in English from April.
