Highly stable Aza-BODIPY dyes for near-infrared-II PAI/FLI guided efficient tumor photothermal therapy

Highly stable Aza-BODIPY dyes for near-infrared-II PAI/FLI guided efficient tumor photothermal therapy
Fluorescence imaging (FLI) and photoacoustic imaging (PAI) in the near-infrared-II (NIR-II) window offer significant superiorities, including non-invasiveness and deep tissue penetration, which are beneficial for guiding highly efficient tumor photothermal therapy (PTT). Herein, utilizing photoinduced electron transfer (PET) and vibration relaxation effect, a NIR-II therapeutic agent based on aza-BODIPY dyes is rationally constructed by bonding diethylaminobenzene with strong electron supply capability, small spatial skeleton of conjugated aromatic rings, aza-BODIPY core, and triethylene glycol monomethyl ether (TGME). Aza NPs with enhanced loading rates is obtained for biological application by introducing TGME. Aza NPs with concentration-dependence linear NIR-II fluorescence and photoacoustic signals, excellent resistance to reactive oxygen nitrogen species exhibits a high photothermal conversion efficiency of 53.3 %. Finally, guided by the superior NIR-II FLI and PAI, HeLa tumors were effectively eliminated by the super photothermal conversion performance of Aza NPs. This work proposes that PET and vibration relaxation effect are very important theoretical guidance to construct aza-BODIPY-based NIR-II therapeutic agent for tumor PTT, which lays the foundation for the clinical application development of small-molecule organic nanomedicines. It also provides new ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of deep-located tumors through the NIR-II FLI & PAI guidance.

Dyes and Pigments covers the scientific and technical aspects of the chemistry and physics of dyes, pigments and their intermediates. Emphasis is placed on the properties of the colouring matters themselves rather than on their applications or the system in which they may be applied. Thus the journal accepts research and review papers on the synthesis of dyes, pigments and intermediates, their physical or chemical properties, e.g. spectroscopic, surface, solution or solid state characteristics, the physical aspects of their preparation, e.g. precipitation, nucleation and growth, crystal formation, liquid crystalline characteristics, their photochemical, ecological or biological properties and the relationship between colour and chemical constitution. However, papers are considered which deal with the more fundamental aspects of colourant application and of the interactions of colourants with substrates or media. The journal will interest a wide variety of workers in a range of disciplines whose work involves dyes, pigments and their intermediates, and provides a platform for investigators with common interests but diverse fields of activity such as cosmetics, reprographics, dye and pigment synthesis, medical research, polymers, etc.
